Inside the Seongsu lab reformulating snail mucin for sensitive skin

Seongsu-dong has become Seoul's formulation district — converted shoe factories now housing labs with benches, HPLC machines and a great deal of coffee.

The team we visited spent eighteen months on a single filtrate: raising the mucin concentration while removing the fragrance and denatured alcohol that make so many versions unusable for reactive skin.

Their test panel was recruited exclusively from people with a diagnosed barrier condition. That's the opposite of how most consumer testing works, and it shows in the final texture — thinner, less tacky, no sting.

We now stock two products from that bench. Both took a full round of in-house testing before we listed them.
